THE BASICS AND STRATEGIES

I. An overview of the IELTS listening Test
a.This sub testis common to both the Academic and Academic training Moduules.
b.The listening booklet has 40 question;each is worth one mark if correctly answered.
c.There are four sections ti this subtest

e.The topics in section 1 and 2 are concerned with social needs and everyday activities , but in Section 3 and 4 they are about situations relating to educational or training contexts.

h.The A brief introductory explanation of the context is heard before each section ,but this is not printed on the question booklet.
i.At the end of the test ,you are given TEN MINUTES to copy your answers on the answer sheet provided.
j.CORRECT SPELLING is essential on the answer sheet (not on the question booklet).

The IELTS is british rest created by the University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate in the United kingdom .it is ,therefore ,written in British English ,but in the listening sub-test American spelling is also accepted as it is an international test accepted in almost all English speaking countries even in the US .However .you need to use only one form of English-either American or British -in the Writing Test.

II. Listening Test Description
Section 1
.It is a dialogue ,eiter face to face or on the phone.
.The subject is a topic of general interest (booking a holyday,or a course of study ...).
.There is always an example in the section ,which is PLAYED TWICE as soon as you hear the answer to the example ,listen for the answers to Question 1. .
.The 10 questions in this section are usually presented in two parts.and there is a short pause in the recording before the start of the next part .
.This section intents to tests your speeling and understanding of specific information .
Section 2
.The recording is a talk.a speech ,an announcement etc .by one person.
.The subject is a topic of general interest .
.There is always an example in the section ,which is PLAYED TWICE as soon as you hear the answer to the example ,listen for the answers to Question 1. .
.There are 10 questions- usually presented in two parts.and there is a short pause in the recording before the start of the next part .
.The recording in this section tests your understanding of specific factual information and selecting relevant information from what you hear .
Section 3
.It is a discussion between up to four people .
.The subject is some aspect of academic life.
.There are 10 questions , and there is a brief pause in the discussion between the two parts .
.it tests:
a.your ability to identify key fact and ideas and how they relate to each other.
b.your ability to recognize speakers and identify their attitudes and opinions.

Note:

Speakers can express their opinions and attitudes in various ways.for example ,they may use an adjective that is positive or negative (e,g. easy, hard), a verb (e.g. agree, dont believe ), or a sentence (e,g . thats what i think too = agree./Im not sure thats right = do not agree).

Section 4
The recording is a lecture,usually in front of an audience (e.g. in university)..
.The subject is a topic of academic interest (e.g.a scientific or historic).
.There are 10 questions which are usually presented in one part .
.To make sure you have not missed any parts of the lecture ,you need to look at the key words around the first and the also the second question .
.the recording in this section tests:
a.understanding and distinguishing between ideas:reasons,causes,effects...
b.your ability to follw the ,way the ideas are organized (e.g.main ideas,specific information , attitudes) and also the speakers opinion .
c.accurate spelling .
